,, Ilene G. Martin, age 87, of Riceville, Iowa, passed away on Thursday (Aug. 29, 2002) at the Riceville Community Rest Home in Riceville, Iowa.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2002, at the Saratoga Presbyterian Church in Saratoga, Iowa with the Rev. Tim Sir officiating. Interment will be at a later date.

Ilene was born in Burr Oak Township in rural Mitchell County on September 27, 1914 to Roy and Bessie Gay Bird. Ilene was united in marriage to Ted Otis Martin. She graduated from Riceville High School in 1932. She worked in the Riceville United States Post Office and at the Chatterbox Cafe in Riceville.

Survivors include one son, Dr. Lynn Martin and his wife Lynette of Monroe, Mich; grandchildren Tina Mayor and her husband Greg of Garden City, Mich, and Ilene’s great-grandchildren Biandon Marr of Monroe and Joshua Marr, who is in the U.S. Navy; a grandson, Jim Martin and his wife Candy of Monroe, and great-grandchildren Amber and Krystal, both at home with their parents.

Ilene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, three brothers, Louis, Floyd and Lawrence and her twin sister, Irene.
