Horton, Arlys J. nee Hyde 1923 - 2002NEW HAMPTON - Arlys J. Horton, 79, New Hampton, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002 a t her home of natural causes. Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Reverend David Bergstrom officiating. Edith Kolthoff was the organist and accompanied those in attendance singing "In The Sweet By And By", "How Great Thou Art" and "I Come To The Garden Alone". Cross bearer was Rhonda Vardy. Burial was in New Hampton Cemetery with Todd Horton, Scott Horton, Brad Horton, David Horton, Paul Krueger and Dann Hyde serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers were Rhonda Vardy, Lynn Horton, Catherine Horton, Laura Horton, Jennifer Horton and Kari Horton. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton and also an hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Arlys June Horton was born June 19, 1923 in Ventura, the daughter of James and Doris (Minton) Hyde. She graduated from Ventura Consolidated School and the University of Northern Iowa. She married Eugene Horton on Nov. 18, 1945. She taught school for 35 years, 26 of those years in New Hampton. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and ADK Sorority. Survivors include one daughter, Doris (Donald) Rinehart, Fort Dodge; three sons, Gary (Patricia) Horton, Clarion, Donald (Sandra) Horton, Marion and Roger (Virginia) Horton, New Hampton; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson and two sisters-in-law, Myrtle Hyde, Spencer and Lillian Ferch, Charles City. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, in 1975 and a brother, Jack Hyde.
