Foss, Norman William 1917 - 2002Norman William Foss, 87, ot Riceville, formerly ot Latimer, died Friday, November 8, 2002, at Cresco Regional Hospital. Funeral services tor Norman Foss were held Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at the United Methodist Church at Hampton with Pastor Michael Carey officiating. Burial was in the Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Iowa. Military rites were conducted by Hansen-Have American Legion. Norman William Foss was born December 11, 1917, at the Spring Grove Hospital, Spring Grove, Minnesota, the son of Edward J. and Louise (Kieland) Foss. Norman attended Spring Grove Public School and graduated from high school in 1933. He entered St. Olaf College and graduated in 1938 with a B.A. degree. After his graduation, he worked for three years for his father as a salesman for the Foss Motor sales in Spring Grove. He enlisted in the Ordinance Division of the U.S. Air Force on January 30, 1942, and served overseas. Norman was discharged from the Air Force in November of 1944. On January 11, 1945, he was united in marriage to Helen Jeanette Martin. The couple made their home in Latimer. Following his military service, he completed graduate study in Business Administration at Drake University. He became employed in 1946 as an agent with the Internal Revenue Service and served in the position until he accepted a position as accountant for the B & W Food Stores in Hampton. He served this position for 22 years until retiring-. He also operated the Foss Bookkeeping and Tax Service in his home. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi, an honorary business fraternity at Drake University, a member of the Hansen-Have American Legion, the Latimer Community Club, the Latimer Golf Club, and the United Methodist Church. His hobbies were golf and fishing. He enjoyed many canoe and fishing trips in Canada with his sons. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Helen; and four sons, John and wife Carol of Esko, Minn., Edwin (Ned) and wife Nancy of Bend, Oreg., Robert (Bob) and wife LuAnn of Riceville, and William (Bill) of Riceville. Remembering his kindness and happiness are five grandchildren, Dr. Daniel Foss and Christine Foss, both of Bend, Oregon and Brian, Jason and Jared Foss of Riceville. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Adolph and Owen; and one sister, Anna.
