Dutton, Hazel "Maxine" nee Rice 1917 - 2002Services were held for Hazel “Maxine” Dutton at the United Methodist Church in Riceville, Iowa on Friday, January 11 with the Hospice Chaplain*, Rev. Kathy Graves officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Riceville. Hazel Dutton, age 84, of Mason City, formerly of Osage, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Maxine was born April 4, 1917, in Dows, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Maude (Stuck) Rice. She was united in marriage to George Dutton on July 23, 1936 in Eagle Grove. They moved to a farm north of Riceville in 1953 and farmed many years. George died October 16, 1989. Maxine was a member of the Oakdale Township Women’s Club and the Kitchen Klatter Band. She baked cakes for all occasions, loved music and played the piano, quilted, crocheted, and took care of her plants. She was survived by her three daughters, Jacqueline Gott, Mason City, Iowa, Sandra Krause and her husband Howard of Orchard, Iowa Karen Lenz and her friend Bob Johnson of Osage, Iowa; one son, Richard Lee Dutton and his wife Betty of Onamia, Minn,; a granddaughter that Maxine raised, Melanie Muth and her husband Dave of Dougherty; one sister, Marcine Cooper and her husband Bluferd of Dows; ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 23 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Carmen Joyce Jones and a infant grandson.
