Brummond, Edith C. nee Johnson 1920 - 2002NEW HAMPTON - Edith Brummond, 81, New Hampton died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002 at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo of natural causes. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at Holy Family Parish, St. Mary's Center, Ney/ Hampton with Reverend Carl Schmitt presiding. Ann Bennett was the organist and accompanied the cantor, Jeremy Brummond, as well as the St. Mary's Resurrection Choir singing "Be Not Afraid", "Peace Is Flowing Like A River", "Gift of Finest Wheat", "On Eagle's Wings", and "We Have Been Told". Lectors for the service were Tammy Kacer and Leslie Bonzer. The Dan and Glenn Rosonke family presented the offertory gifts. Joyce Stacy, Shirley Regel and Karen Brummond placed the pall. Eucharistic ministers were Peg Brummond, Elaine Denner and Junior Brummond. Burial was in the church cemetery with Tina Shrader, James German, Troy Brummond, Penny Caddell, Chad Brummond and Mike Brummond serving as casket bearers. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at Con-way-Kolbet Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there was a 4 p.m. Rosary and 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service. Edith Corrine Johnson was born Nov. 9, 1920 in New Hampton, the daughter of Sievert and Martha (Kimble) Johnson. She attended rural school near her home. She was united in marriage to Clarence Brummond in 1938 and later died of cancer in 1949. She later married Gerald E. Brummond on July 16, 1951 in New Hampton. The couple resided in New Hampton all of their married life. During WWII, Edith worked at the Oliver Plant in Charles City. She later worked for various restaurants in the New Hampton area until her retirement at age 75. After retiring she enjoyed going to Tama and The Boat, fishing, crocheting doilies and baking. She was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Rosary Society. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Don) Stacy, Waverly, Shirley (Roger) Regel, Charles City, four sons, Edward (Dorothy), Waucoma; James, New Hampton; Bob (Peg), New Hampton and Glenn (Beth), Fairbanks, AK; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gene Johnson, Waterloo and three sisters, Marie Bellinger, Plainfield; Lorraine Bennor, Nashua and Anna Mae Hurd, Nashua. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Clarence in 1949 and Gerald in 1998 and two sisters, Thelma Howe and Darlene McDonald.
