Bell, Donald 1930 - 2002MT. PLEASANT -- Donald Bell, 72, Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2002 a t his home. Funeral Services were Monday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. a t Faith Christian Outreach Church, Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating Burial was in Oakland Mills Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Visitation was after 12 noon Sunday, Sept. 22 at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, Mt. Pleasant, where the family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Donald was born July 25, 1930 in Grinnell, the son of Clarence and Helen Pearce Bell. He was active in 4-H and F.F.A. He graduated from Grinnell High School. On June 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Weitzell at' Sheridan Methodist Church, Malcom. He served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He received a BA degree in Animal Husbandry from Iowa State University in 1958. Following his graduation, he farmed for five years in rural Brooklyn, worked for Iowa State Extension Service in .Marengo for two years and then joined the United States Department of Agriculture in the Farmers Home Administration division where he worked for 30 years, serving in the Centerville, Waverly, New Hampton and Tipton offices. He retired in 1988 as the District Director out of the Tipton office. The Bells moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1994. Don was a member of Faith Christian. Outreach Church and served on its board of directors. Don and Dorothy graduated from Rhema Bible College in 1991. Don was also a member of Tipton Lions Club and loved woodworking, traveling and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Deborah (Dennis) Burkle, North Platte, NE and Denise (Richard) Benson, Tulsa, OK; two sons, David Bell, Mt. Pleasant and Darin (Monica) Bell, Pembroke Pines, FL; three brothers, Gerald Bell, Grinnell, Loren Bell, Hesperia, CA and Larry (Judy) Bell, Newton; ten grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
