Usher, Ray J. 1916 - 2001NASHUA -- Ray J. Usher, 85, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City of natural causes. Funeral Services were Thursday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Nashua. Burial was in Sunnyside Memorial Gardens, near Charles City. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Masonic services were held 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral Home. Ray was born July 17,1916 in Ionia, the son of Bill and Florence (Miller) Usher. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1934. He married Anna J. Bigelow on Dec. 16,1937 in Preston, MN. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Ray worked for Oliver Corp., Charles City until 1966 and then was a self-employed insurance agent until his retirement in 1978. Survivors include his wife, Anna; five sons, Richard, Waterloo, Larry, Stacy, MN, Dennis, Bassett, Galen, Stanton, CA and Ronald, Capron, IL; two sisters, Beverly Do-mazlichy, Berwyn, IL and Ruth Cox, St. Cloud, MN; four brothers, Maurice, Cohasset, MN, Rex, Toledo, OH, David, Dubois, WY and James, Ft. Pierce, FL; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and seven step great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were a daughter, Joyce, on Jan. 2, 2001; his parents; three brothers, Keith, Roy and Bruce; one sister, Mary Lou Barr and a great-granddaughter, Christie Usher.
