STEPAN, Mary Ann nee FOLKERS 1937 - 2001WEST UNION - Mary Ann Stepan, 63, died Friday, March 16, 2001. A Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 19 at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union with Rev. Dale Rausch as Celebrant. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, West Union with pallbearers Michael Folkers, Ray Bob Stepan, Brian Folkers, Daniel Stepan, Jay Underwood and Cory Stepan. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren. Visitation was held Sunday, March 18 at the Burnham-Wood Funeral Home with a 4 p.m. Parish, C.D. of A. and K.C. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Mary Ann was born March 24, 1937 in New Hampton, the daughter of Eldon and Lenora (Kobliska) Folkers. She graduated from St. Bernard's Catholic School, Alta Vista. On. Oct. 24, 1955 she was united in marriage to Edward Stepan. They farmed in the Sumner, Readlyn and Alpha areas before moving to West Union in 1992. Mary Ann enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, collecting salt and pepper shakers, selling Watkins products and spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Edward; nine sons, Randy (Marilyn), Raphael and Mark, West Union; Gerald (Tammy), Muskogee, OK, Garold, Janesville, WI, Robert (Connie), Creston, NE, David (Kathy), Sumner, Edward (Debra), San Angelo, TX and Wayne of Texas; four daughters, Lanet (Keith) Suhr, Fredericksburg, Christie Mitchell, Hawkeye, Ann (Justin) Knudt-son, Waterloo and Carol Stepan, Cedar Falls; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, Dennis Folkers, Oelwein; Dean and Doug Folkers, both of Alta Vista; two sisters, Jeanette Underwood, Waterloo and Audrey Fries, Indiana. Preceding her in death were a son, Ronald; two grandchildren, Emily Stepan and Gerald Stepan, Jr; her parents and daughter-in-law, DeLois Stepan.
