STEFFEN, Monica Ruth 1960 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - Monica Ruth Steffen, 41, New Hampton, died Saturday, June 9, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center-New Hampton from a brain tumor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass. Music for the service will be provided by Ann Bennett as organist with the St. Mary's Choir and Mike Carlin as vocalist. Private Family Interment will take place at a later date. Dean Morris, David Strom, Gary Griffin, Randy Voigt, Tim Popken and Dan Conlon will serve as pall bearers. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday, June 11 at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 4 p.m. Rosary, 7 p.m. Scripture Service and a 7:30 p.m. video Memorial Tribute. Monica was born April 5, 1960 in Ames, the daugnter of Sylvester L. and Felicitas A. (Garcia) Steffen. She was a 1978 graduate of New Hampton High School and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Design and Architecture. Following her education she worked for two ! years in Boone and later for Morris Landscaping and the Frame and Gallery Shop, both of New Hampton. Memberships include St. Mary's Catholic Church and "Don't Quit Your Day Job Band" where she played the bass guitar. Monica loved nature, plants and the outdoors. Survivors include her parents; five sisters, Veronica Steffen-Breito (Fernando), Madrid Spain; Rebecca (Randy) Voight, Decorah, Theresa (Rodney) Furr, Vernon, VT, Maria (Tim) Popken, Alta Vista and Leticia Steffen-Ivery (Jim), Strasburg, CO, two nieces and five nephews.
