PATTEN, Herman Gene 1922 - 2001FREDERICKSBURG -- Herman Gene Patten, 78, Fredericksburg, died Saturday afternoon, April 14, 2001 ait the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Hampton of natural causes. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 19 at 1 p.m. at Garden View Chapel, Waterloo, with Lyle Schober and Jason Sweazy officiating. Jane Jensen was organist, witn Lyle Patten, Carol Patten and Janet Bailey singing "I've a Friend", "The Pages of Life" and "When Life is Ended". Interment was in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, with Jon Platte, Bernie Kracht, Ashley Larson, Duane Kellogg, Douglas Larson, Aaron Swenson ana Donavan Dontie as casket bearers. Visitation was from noon to service time on Thursday at the funeral chapel. Herman was born Sept. 15, 1922 in Boone County, Iowa, the son of William and Iva (Wisecup) Patten. He attended schools in Luther, IA and farmed in that area until moving to Waterloo in 1949. On Aug. 25, 1952 he was united in marriage with Helen Ingebritson at Hampton. They lived in Long Beach, CA for a time, then returned to Iowa in 1960. In 1963, the couple moved to their farm near Fredericksburg. Herman and Helen operated Patten's Upholstery for 38 years. Surviving are his wife, Helen; four daughters, Brenda Larson, Modesto, CA, Marlys Swenson, Fredericksburg, LuAnn Patten, New Prague, MN and Charlotte Wright, Burnsville, MN; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Wooster Patten, Denver; a sister, Iona Patten, Waterloo. Preceding him in death were a grandson, Andre Patten; his parents; four brothers, Don, Carl, Rollo and Howard; one sister, LaVessa Patten. Memorials may be directed to the family. Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home in Nashua was in charge of arrangements.
