MUNSON, Ada 1912 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - Ada Munson, 89, New Hampton, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of natural causes. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton with Rev. Kevin Frey and Rev. David Bergstrom officiating. Carol Gorman will be organist, accompanying the congregation singing, "All Creatures of Our God and King", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art". Interment will be in the New Hampton Cemetery with Ken Thompson, Gene Thompson, John Roberson, Art Munson, Larry Pitzenberger and Henry Reicxs as pallbearers. Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton and an hour prior to the funeral at the church Ada was born in rural Chickasaw County on June 23, 1912, the fifth child of Adolph (Duff) and Martha (Attleson) Munson. She graduated from Lawler High School and began her college education at Luther College in Decorah and received her degree from Upper Iowa University, Fayette. At the age of 18, in 1930, Ada began teaching in rural Jacksonville Township and other area country schools until 1962 at which time she began teaching first grade at the New Hampton Elementary School. Fifty-two years of teaching were completed when Ada retired in 1983. Ada was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was named "Woman Of The Year" in 1985 by the New Hampton Business and Professional Women. Ada enjoyed reading, television, crossword puzzles and visiting with family and friends. Survivors include one sister, Alice Thompson, New Hampton; two sisters-in-law, Tomena Munson, New Hampton and Betty Munson, Lawler and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Lester, Floyd, Arthur and Merle Munson and a sister, Edith Roberson.
