NEW HAMPTON ~ Elizabeth G. McBride, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001 at the Muse Norris Inpatient Hospice Unit, Mason City of natural causes.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the Mass. Music provided by Sr. Lorraine  Loecher as organist and Rose Baltes as cantor. The pall was placed on the casket by her four children. Bob O'Hollearn was lector.

Interment was in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church Cemetery with Tom Chandler, John Lynch, John O'Byrne, Pat McBride, Michael O'Hollearn and Brian O'Hollearn as pallbearers. The Catholic Daughters of America were honorary pallbearers.

Visitation was from 3-8 m. Sunday, Jan. 14 at Larkin-Martin - Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of America Rosary, a 7 p.m. Parish Scripture Service and a 7:30 p.m. Memorial Tribute. Further visitation was held an hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Elizabeth was born Jan. 3, 1915 south of Jerico, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Norton) O'Hollearn. She graduated from New Hampton High School with a Normal Training State Teachers Certificate in 1933. She taught in the Stapleton No. 6 rural schools south of Lawler for six years before her marriage to Edward McBride of Fredericksburg on Aug. 26, 1939 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Lawler. She returned to teaching from 1944 to 1947 in the Evergreen Valley rural school near their home in Fredericksburg. Upon the death of her husband in 1961 she and her family moved to New Hampton. Mrs. McBride continued ner education at the Upper Iowa University, Fayette and returned to teaching at St. Joseph Catholic School, New Hampton. She retired in 1982. Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church and Rosary Society, St. Joseph's 500 Club, A.C.C.W., the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and she was a past member of the N.C.E.A. and Northeast Iowa Reading Council. Elizabeth also spent several years delivering Meals on Wheels.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Thomas) Fisher, Grapevine, TX; Debra Hayrey (Sant), Mason City; two sons, Thomas (Sherry) McBride, Camarillo, CA and Richard (Paulette) McBride, Indianapolis, IN; eight grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lois O'Hollearn, Cedar Rapids and Agnes O'Hollearn, New Hampton.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mary Griffin and Evelyn O'Byrne and three brothers, Joe and Bill O'Hollearn and Edward O'Hollearn in infancv.
