LAMKA, Laurel Lee 1924 - 2001FREDERICKSBURG Laurel Lamka, 76, Fredericksburg, died Monday, March 26, 2001 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. Funeral services were 1 p..m. Thursday, March 29 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton with Rev. David Fye officiating. Edith Kolthoff was organist, accompanying those in attendance singing 'The Old Rugged Cross" and^'How Great Thou Art". Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg with Gene Scroggins, Bill Schmidt, Don Pett, Randy Lamka, David Lamka and Neil Kahn Jr. serving as casket bearers. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 and also an hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home. Laurel Lee Lamka was born May 16, 1924 on the family farm near Fredericksburg, the son of Fred and Louise (Schmidt) Lamka. He graduated from Frederika High School. After his schooling, Laurel moved to Waterloo and worked at Rath Packing Company and later John Deere. He was united in marriage with Gertrude Forbes at Waterloo on Sept. 30, 1945. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to the Williamstown area where they farmed. Laurel retired from farming at the age of 52 and resided in the Williamstown area until his death. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing and traveling. Surviving are two sons, Gregory (Mary) Lamka, Polk City, Gary (Mavis) Lamka, Hector, MN; one daughter, Carol (Francis) Kuehn, Cabot, AR; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence (Wilma) Lamka, Fredericksburg. Preceding him in death were his wife, Gertrude; a son, Darryl Lamka; a daughter-in-law, Jackie; his parents.
