KIRCHHOFF, LaVern 1914 - 2001SUMNER - LaVern Kirchhoff, 86, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 26 at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner with Rev. John Sorenson, Rev. Alan Schulz and Rev. David Fenejon officiating. Injterment was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Sumner. Casket bearers were Scott Braun, Darren Anderson, Bryan Kirchhoff, Randy Kirchhoff, Jeff Lee, Bobby Zeien, Kevin Warnke and David Poock. Visitation was from 4-8 .m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 at ecker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for one hour preceding services at the church on Wednesday. LaVern was born Oct. 20, 1914 in Bremer County, the son of Herman and Helena (Plag-emann) Kirchhoff. He was baptized Nov. 8, 1914 and confirmed April 1, 1928 at St. John Lutheran Church, Spring Fountain. He received his education in the rural Bremer County schools. On Oct. 8,1936 he was united in marriage with Edna Schneider at St. John Lutheran Church, Buck Creek. The couple farmed for many years in me Sumner and Tripoli areas before moving into Sumner in 1969. La Verne then worked for several years for the City of Sumner before retiring at the age of 63. survivors include one son, Kenneth (Janice) Kirchhoff, Fredericksburg; two daughters, Darlys (Paul) Braun, Cedar Falls and Valera (Lyle) Poock, Faribault, MN; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Earl Kirchhoff, Sumner and Jene Kirchhoff, Tripoli and one half-sister, Ruth Korte, Waterloo. Preceding him in death were his wife, Edna, who died July 4,2000; one grandson, Todd Braun; his parents; one sister, Oretta Fenelon and one half-sister, Florence Block.
