KEMP, Edward William 1915 - 2001Funeral services for Edward Kemp of Alta Vista were held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alta Vista with Rev. Peter D. Peterson officiating. Interment was in Union Cemetery in Alta Vista. Pallbearers were: Geoffrey Halverson, Kenneth Halverson, Todd Halverson, Kevin Masemann, Alan Pickar, and Jack Piehn. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Edward, 86, died Thursday, November 8, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton of natural causes. Edward William Kemp was bom February 6, 1915 on the Gerhardt family farm near Alta Vista, the son of Ed H. and Mary (Gerhardt) Kemp. He graduated from Alta Vista Public High School. After his schooling he went into road construction with his father, often working with Carlson Construction. He then began farming. On Juner 28, 1939 he married Opal Falck at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco. After their marriage Ed operated Kemp’s Service Station on the four comers in Alta Vista. During this time the couple lived above the locker. They later purchased an old schoolhouse and developed a homestead south of Alta Vista. They sold the filling station and began farming and had a dairy operation. During the winter months he worked for Otto Lentz doing construction. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, picking up nuts, especially black walnuts. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Opal of Alta Vista; one daughter: Judy Adams of Jordan, MN; one son: Jerry of San diego, CA; one granddaughter; and two greatgrandchildren. Edward was preceded in death by her parents.
