KELLY, John H. 1913 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - John H. Kelly, 87, New Hampton,, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at St. Joseph Catnolic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt presiding. Sr. Lorraine Loecher will be organist, accompanying the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir. The pall will be placed on the casket by his wife and their children. Interment will be in the New Hampton Cemetery with military rites by Fae Stine American Legion Post of New Hampton. Pallbearers are Wally Murphy, Mike Kennedy, Vern Laures, Dan Fliger, Don Lester and Mike Njus. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Kennedy, Bob Dee, Nels Jensen, Bob Rigler, Emmett Martin and Gerald Carney. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4'at Hugeoack Funeral Home, New Hampton where there will be a 7 p.m. parish scripture service. Further visitation is an hour prior to the funeral at the church. John was born on Dec. 1,1913, northwest of New Hampton, the son of Hugh and Eliza (Kearns) Kelly. He attended rural grade school and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1932. After high school he worked for six years as a deputy clerk of court. On June 29, 1940, he married Hilda Hansen at the St. Joseph Rectory in New Hampton. After John worked as deputy clerk, he started the Kelly Insurance Agency which he operated until his retirement in 1978. John served with the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 and was stationed on Okinawa in the Pacific during the last months of his service. He was a member of the New Hampton Chamber of Commerce where he served a term as president, was active in the New Hampton Industrial Development Corporation and with Loren Garnant, developed the first part of the Leichtman Housing Addition. John was also an active member of the American Legion Post. Survivors include his wife, Hilda; one daughter, Patricia (David) Peters, Boston; one son, Bill (Connie) Kelly, Ankeny; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one brother, Herb (Ann) Kelly, Fort Dodge. Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Francis Kelly and a sister, Ethel Kelly.
