JONES, Eleanor Mae nee BHEND 1916 - 2001Services were held for Eleanor Mae Jones on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in LeRoy. Rev. Steve Elderbrock officiated the service. Interment was in the LeRoy Cemetery. Eleanor Jones, age 84, of LeRoy died Saturday March 31, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. She was born November 5, 1916 in Mower County to Adolph and Fannie Bhend. She attended LeRoy Public Schools and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1934. She attended business college in Mankato and was later employed by Mower County Agriculture Offices in Austin. On March 1, 1942 she was united in marriage to Donald Jones at her parents’ home near LeRoy. Together they made their home on a farm in the LeRoy area. Four daughters were born to this union. Janet, Joanne, Nancy and Donna. Following Donald’s death in 1986 she made her home in LeRoy. She was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of LeRoy and was a long time member of the church women’s association and served on the board of deacons. She served as church secretary for 25 years and was honored as a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church. Eleanor was active in her community, having been a member of the Social Literary Club and the Happy Homemaker’s Club. She also served as a 4-H Club Leader. Eleanor’s happiest moments were spent with family and friends. She is survived by four daughters; Janet (Mrs. Dick) Mayer of Leroy, Joanne (Mrs. Robert) Schmelz of Round Rock, Texas, Nancy (Mrs. Paul) Nelson of Garner, Iowa and Donna (Mrs. Allen) Schulze of Caledonia, Minn.; 7 grandchildren Randy Mayer, Susanne and Lisa Schmelz, Jared and Jill Nelson, Brent and Bradley Schulze; three great grandchildren, Brandi, Derek and Ryan Mayer; one sister Marcella Boe of Rochester, a brother Frederic Bhend of LeRoy and a sister-in-law Ethel Mahoney of Grand Meadow; nieces, nephews and many friends. Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in LeRoy was in charge of arrangements.
