HOLSCHLAG, Maurine nee JOHNSON 1912 - 2001NEW HAMPTON ~ Maurine Holschlag, 88, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001 at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Ceriter of natural causes. A Mass of Christian Burial was held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt celebrating the mass. The pall was placed on the casket by her children and their spouses. Lectors for the service were Carrie Roethler and Sherri Dowd. Music for the service was provided by Sr. Lorraine Loecher as organist and Joyce Shatek as cantor. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Hampton with grandchildren, Becky Schoenfeld, Kathy Roethler, Randy Brummond, Cindy Kellogg, Dick Brummond, Dan Brummond, Brad Holschlag and Craig Holschlag as pallbearers. Visitation was from 3-8 m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton where there was a 4 p.m. rosary, a 7 p.m. parish scripture service and a 7:30 p.m. memorial tribute. Further visitation was an hour prior to the funeral at the church. Maurine was born in Waterloo on May 18, 1912, the daughter of Elmer and Martha (Picnelmann) Johnson. She attended school near Waterloo and in the Chickasaw County area. On Feb. 9, 1931 she married Carl Holschlag at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Hampton. The couple started Holschlag Construction of New Hampton in the late 1940's which they operated until 1970. For many years the couple spent their winters in Texas. Maurine was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Rosary Society and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Maurine enjoyed traveling, playing cards and bingo, crocheting and gardening. Survivors include two sons, Tom (Paula) Holschlag, New Hampton and Tim (Lyn) Holschlag, Minneapolis, MN; one daughter, Geraldine Brummond, New Hampton; eight grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, onald Johnson, Charles City; three sisters, Ellen Gauger, Evelyn (Ray) Merrill and Ruth Martin, all of Charles City. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Carl, in 1982; a daughter in infancy; a grandson, Ryan Holschlag; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Schoenfeld and .Mandy Brummond; a son-in-law, Lavern Brummond; one brother, Floyd Johnson and a sister, Neva Lienau.
