HEYING, Harold 1908 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - Harold Henry Heying, 93, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with grandsons, Tom Rochford, Michael Rochford, Rod Heying, Charles Campbell, Bob Carr and David Carr as pall bearers. Visitation was at the Hugeback Funeral Home Monday, Oct. 29 from 2 to 8 p.m. with a 4 p.m. Rosary and 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Harold's oldest daughter, Jeanne Rochford, Gainesville, FL gave the eulogy. Harold was born in Alta Vista on Jan. 22, 1908, the son of Herman and Christina (Glaser) Heying. He married Mildred Marion June 1, 1932 in St. Michael's Church, Watauga, SD. They made their home on the same farm where Mildred was born near Alta Vista, in 1940 moved to a farm near North Washington and in 1968 moved to New Hampton. Mildred died June 10, 19/4. He married Irma Felder Peters Feb. 14, 1976 at St. Mary Catholic Church, New Hampton. She died Nov. 7, 1997. In June of 1948 Harold was elected Chickasaw County Supervisor. He held this job for 20 years serving as chairman of the board the majority of the time. In 1968 he became Chickasaw County Assessor, retiring in 1979, Beginning in 1956, he held several offices in the State of Iowa County Officers Association culminating with his presidency in 1962. He was instrumental in raising funds to entice the Kitchens of Sara Lee Plant to locate in New Hampton. He was a 75 year member of the Court 1245 St. Benedict's Catholic Order of Foresters in North Washington. The residents of the New Hampton Care Center voted him Valentine King of the year. Harold was an active member of his church, community and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed sports and served as baseball umpire for several years in North Washington. Other favorite activities include bridge, fishing and bowling. Surviyors: include two daughters, Jeanne (Tom) Rochford, Gainesville, FL and Shirley (Jim) Campbell, Wilmette, IL; two sons, Norman (Dorothy), Pine Island, FL and Douglas (Jessie), Berkely, CA; 15 grandchildren; 27 greatgrandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two stepdaughters, Mary Kay (James) Carr, New Hampton and Joanne (Andy) Gaborcik , Delaware, OH; two stepsons, James (Carol) Peters, Hales Corner, WI and Dennis (Susan) Peters, Tomah, WI; 13 step-grandchildren; 22 step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bernard Heying, Benton, WI and Leo Heying, Alta Vista; two sisters, Rosella Bach, Beloit, WI and Lillian Osterman, Elk River, MN and a step brother, Billy Gorley, Montana. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives, Mildred and Irma; a brother, Charles Heying and a sister, Angela Marshall.
