HALVORSON, Janice C. nee HARTSON 1935 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - Janice C. Halvorson, 65, New Hampton, died Sunday, June 17, 2001 at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, of natural causes. Funeral services were 1 p..m. Wednesday, June 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hampton, with Rev. Kevin Frey officiating. Dennis Strum was organist, Colleen Busta and Deb Speltz were vocalists, singing "In the Garden" and "You'll Never Walk Alone". The congregation sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Rock of Ages." Private family interment will be held at a later date at the New Hampton City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Casey Kellogg, Ben Rosonke, Weston Lahr, Wyatt Lahr, Travis Lahr and Joe Berst Jr. Visitation was 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19 at Hugeoack Funeral Home, New Hampton, and an hour prior to services at the church. Janice was born Aug. 23, 1935 in New Hampton, the daughter of Milton and Lorraine (Kist) Hartson. She attended rural school near Williamstown, attended her freshman year at Fredericksburg High School and completed her education in Waterloo. On Oct. 3, 1953, she married Bernard Halvorson at the former St. Olaf Lutheran Church in New Hampton. The couple lived in New Hampton after their marriage and moved to their current home northwest of New Hampton in 1965. Janice sold Avon for two years, then was employed at the J.C. Penney Store in New Hampton. She also worked for 17 years at Sara Lee, retiring in 1991. Janice enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, writing poetry, camping, fishing, gambling, canning vegetables from her garden and collecting Shirley Temple items. Survivors include her husband, Bernard (Bennie); two sons, Bradley (Pam) Halvorson, New Hampton, Todd Halvorson, Erie, CO; four daughters, Brenda (Mike) Kellogg, Riverside, Lori (Mike) Rosonke, New Hampton, Debra (Steve) Lahr, Alexandria, VA, Tamara (Dan) Halvorson, Granger; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Duane (Gladys) Hartson, Decorah, Eugene (Nancy) Hartson, Waterloo; five sisters, LaVonne (Don) Franke and Lois (Bud) Wilson, Evansdale, Phyllis Card, Mason City, Sharon (Dewey) Slater, Plain City, OH and Carol (Jerry) Mack, Minneapolis, MN. Preceding her in death were her parents.
