HAACK, Merle Luella nee MAJERUS 1923 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - Merle Haack, 78, New Hampton, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester after a short illness. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at St. Joseph Catholic Cnurch, New Hampton with Rev. Carl Schmitt officiating. Sr. Lorraine Loecher was the organist and accompanied the cantor, Joyce Shatek, and the St. Joseph Resurrection Choir singing "Be Not Afraid", "Amazing Grace", "One Bread, One Boay" and "On Eagle's Wings". Burial was in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Elba, MN with Darrel Preble, Jason Haack, Paul Haack, Eric Senica, Cory Haack, Ryan Senica and Chris Haack serving as casket bearers. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton, where there was a 5 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service. Friends could also call an hour prior to services at the church. Merle Luella Haack was born July 21, 1923 at Altura, MN, the daughter of Louis and Gertrude (Hyertz) Majerus. She graduated from St. Charles Catholic High School and went on to attend the Winona Business College. After her schooling she worked for the Mayo Clinic, Rochester and also worked in Minneapolis. On Oct. 23, 1947 she was united in marriage to John Haack at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Elba, MN. In 1962 the couple owned and operated the Pepin Pastry Shop in Lake City for two years before moving to Omaha, NE. The couple later moved to Vernon Hills, IL, where she was employed by Decorel in Mundelein, IL. In 1972 the couple moved to New Hampton. She enjoyed playing bingo, needlepoint and crafts. Survivors include three sons, Ron (Wanda), Bemidji, MN, James (Sherrie), Vernon Hills, IL and John, Trevor, WI; a daughter, Karen, Lindenhurst, IL; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, LuVerne (Jean) Majerus, St. Charles, MN, Wesley (LaVonne) "Boots" Majerus, St. Charles, MN and Davis (Vicki) Majerus, Marshfield, WI and her adopted family, Sharon Davis and family.
