FOSSEN, Harold "Buggs" O. 1927 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - Harold "Buggs" Fossen, 74, Jerico, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester of cancer. Funeral Services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at Jerico Lutheran Church, rural New Hampton with Reverend Kent Dethiefsen officiating. Mary Beth Dethlefsen was the organist Burial was in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Lawler American Legion Post 279. Casket bearers were Gene Flatjord, Bruce Flatjord, Keith Vsetecka, Bruce Qualley, Marvin Martinek and Bob Martinek. Visitation was from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton, and an hour prior to services at the church. Harold Olai Fossen was born March 14,1927 on a farm east of Jerico, the son of Severt and Ansena (Knutson) Fossen. He was baptized in 1927 and confirmed in 1941, both at Jerico Lutheran Church. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1944. On March 9, 1945, Harold was sworn into the Naval Reserve at Waterloo. He received his basic training at The Great Lakes Naval Training Station and the Marine training camp in Indicot, RI. He was then sent to Camp Parks, CA where he was shipped out to the 38th Sea-Bees in Hawaii, then Okinawa and later Yakima, Japan. He was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN. After returning from the service, Harold farmed with his family and also worked at the Oliver Corporation, Charles City. On Sept. 5, 1964 he married Mildred Martinek at the Jerico Lutheran Church. Following their marriage the couple resided east of Jerico. In 1985 he retired from Oliver and continued farming. He was a lifelong member of Jerico Lutheran Church, where he served in many offices and was currently serving on the cemetery board. He was a. member of the Lawler American Legion Post 279. He was an avid sportsman, who enjoyed hunting fishing and trapping. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a brother, Kenneth, Jerico; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents.
