ECKENROD, Marvin F. 1954 - 2001SUMNER - Marvin F. Eckenrod, 47, Sumner, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, near his farm from injuries received in a farming accident. Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sumner with Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the church cemetery. Marvin Floyd Eckenrod was born April 21, 1954, the son of Wilbur and Luella (Sorge) Eckenrod in Sumner. He was baptized Dec. 23, 1954 at Republic Cpmmunity Church, Ionia and confirmed April 7, 1968 at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1972. On June 7, 1975 he was united in marriage with Janet Eliason at Zion Lutheran Church in Waterloo. A lifelong Sumner area farmer, Marvin received the Star Iowa Farmer award in 1972, the American Farmer degree in 1974 and the Gold Emblem in dairy proficiency in 1971. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, the Sumner Trailblazers, the Maynard Cooperative Board of Directors, the Farm Bureau and the Corn Growers and Soybean Growers Associations. Survivors include his wife, Janet, Sumner; one son, Brian Eckenrod, at home in Sumner; one daughter, Sara Eckenrod, Waterloo; his mother and step-father, Luella and Robert Weltner, Sumner; two sisters, Joyce (David) Bearman, Nashua and Kay (Lee) Hilgendorf, Rochester, MN. Preceding him in death was his father, in 1994.
