Mary Leone Doerr, age 85, of Jupiter, Flor., formerly of Riceville, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the Hospice of Palm Beach County following complications from a blood infection. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 27, at the Riceville United Methodist Church in Riceville with the Rev. Michael Carey officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery, Riceville.

Mary Leone was born on November 23, 1915 in Riceville to Robert John and Mary Lucille (Carpenter) Wilkes. One of three children, Leone attended Riceville Public Schools and later attended CarIton College and Iowa State University before her marriage to Rudy Doerr on September 12, 1935.

A devoted wife and mother, Leone was also active in community and church activities. She was a substitute secondary teacher in Riceville and during the years she lived in Maquoketa, Iowa she was a teller at the Jackson State Bank. In retirement Leone and Rudy lived in Osage, Iowa and Bettendorf, Iowa. After Rudy's death in 1995, Leone lived in Jupiter. In addition to her husband, Rudy, Leone was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Fred.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Patterson Hallstein of Jupiter and Deanna Doerr Miner of Ann Arbor, Mich. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Brett, Scott and Kristen Miner.

Memorial donations may be made to the Riceville United Methodist Church, 308 Woodland Ave., Riceville, Iowa 50466.
