DIXON, Verda A. nee BALHORN 1919 - 2001LA PORTE CITY - Verda A. Dixon, 81, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, La Porte City. Interment was at Key-stone> Cemetery, Keystone. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at Phillips Funeral Home, Keystone, and for an hour before services Monday at the church. Verda was born Sept. 20, 1919 in rural Keystone, the daughter of William and Antoniette Marie (Albertsen) Balhorn. She married Clarence Dixon on April 8, 1941, and they later divorced. Mrs. Dixon worked at Colonial Manor Nursing Home for 18 years. Srvivors include seven sons, Darly and Dennis, both of La Porte City, Don, New Hampton, Clare, Reinbeck, Douglas, Granger, TX, Steven, Waterloo and Bruce, Kansas City, MO; two daughters, Connie Dilley, Solon and Donna Roney, La Porte City; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three step greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Marvin Balhorn, Marion and Alan Balhorn, Minnesota and three sisters, Velva Destival, Waterloo, Glenda Corneli, Atlanta and Carol Christofferson, Chicago. Preceding her in death were two grandchildren; three brothers, Merle Balhorn and two infants and an infant sister. A Memorial Fund has been established.
