CARNEY, Clara "Barney" Louise nee EDGAR 1922 - 2001NEW HAMPTON - Clara "Barney" Carney, 78, New Hampton, died Monday, July 30, 2001 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes. Funeral services were 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2 at Williamstown United Methodist Church with Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiating. Evelyn Kahn was organist, accompanying those in attendance as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross", "Be StiIl my Soul" and- "Borning Cry". Burial was in the New Hampton Cemetery with Benjamin Bergmann, Beau Bergmann, Robert Brown, David Carney, Larry Fenneman and Gerald Carney serving as casket bearers. Visitation was from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug 1 at Conway Funeral Home in New Hampton and also an hour prior to services at the church. Clara Louise Carney was born Oct. 2, 1922 near Williamstown, the daughter of George and Clara (Kahn) Edgar. She attended Williamstown rural school. After her schooling she worked on the family farm as well as helping relatives and friends with various homemaking tasks. On April 19, 1941 she was united in marriage with Melvin Carney. After their marriage the couple resided with her parents ana in 1942 she stayed with her parents when Melvin entered the service. Upon his return from the service, the couple Jived in Waterloo for a short time before moving to a farm north of Williamstown, and later to New Hampton. Clara worked as a cook for the New Hampton Schools and was a sales clerk at Coast-To-Coast in New Hampton. On Aug. 4, 1995, she entered the New Hampton Care Center. Her husband died Oct. 3, 1995. Clara enjoyed playing the piano, spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, baking bread and their lake home in Minnesota. Surviving are a son, Dave (Carolyn), Bulverde, TX; two daughters, Pamela (Steve) Brown, Davenport, Rhonda (Ken) Bergmann, Frederika; seven grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Adeline (Loren) Fenneman, New Hampton, Elizabeth (Lloyd) Peters, Fredericksburg; nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Melvin; one daughter, Marjorie Louise Carney; one brother, Robert Edgar; four sisters, Lucille Hagedorn, Arlene Robrock, Georgianna Lang, Alice Schmidt.
