Leslie Emil (Les) Benjegerdes, 86, of 408 W. Bosworth St., Manly, Iowa died Wed. April 18, 2001 at Manly Care Center, Manly, Iowa. Services will be Saturday 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly, Iowa with Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Interment will be in the Manly Cemetery, Manly, Iowa. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, Iowa and one hour before the service on Sat. at the Church. Family suggest Benjegerdes memorial fund.

Les was born Jan. 15, 1915 in Lincoln Twp. Rural Manly, Iowa the son of Carl and Eliza (Dobel) Benjegerdes. He graduated from Manly High School in 1932.

Les married Catherine (Marie) Heagel on May 5, 1937. They farmed in the Manly area. She preceded him in death on June 25, 1975. On July 25, 1981 he married Eleanor Crawford at the Free Methodist Church, Riceville, Iowa. They moved to Riceville, Charles City and in 1990 moved to Manly to live.

Les enjoyed reading, fishing and going on trips and playing cards. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly, Iowa; Kiwanis in Riceville and the Homebuilders at Bethel United Methodist Church.

Les is survived by his wife Eleanor Benjegerdes, Manly, Iowa; daughter Sandra Miles and her husband Pete, Fargo, North Dakota; two sons Leon Benjegerdes and his wife Betty, Manly, Iowa and Denis Benjegerdes and his wife Candy, Manly, Iowa; step daughter Lynn Pattee and her husband Bob, Humbolt, Iowa and step son Steve Crawford and his wife Joyce, Charles City, Iowa. Seven grandchildren Maria McConnell, Sabra Low, Karla Haley, Troy Benjegerdes, Cheri Benjegerdes, Joy Garnass and Dan Benjegerdes; four step grandchildren Angie Stockdale, Andy Pattee, Aaron Crawford and Emily Crawford; three great grandchildren Ian Low, Nicholas Butze and Dante Benjegerdes; and three step great grandchildren Andy Haley, Jacob Stockdale and Lucas Stockdale; One sister Irene Gorkowski, Toledo, Ohio; sister in law Florence Benjegerdes, Mason City, Iowa and one brother in law Alex Heagel and his wife Evelyn, Kensett, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie, sisters Gertrude Northway Tarr and Lizzie Dickinson and one brother Walter Benjegerdes.
