Wilbur F. "Wib" Volkart, 86Services were held Sunday at First Baptist Church in LeRoy for Wilbur F. "Wib" Volkart, 86, who died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Austin Medical Center following a brief illness. The Rev. Jerry Olson officiated at the services. Mr. Volkart was born in 1914, son of Henry and Freda Linde Volkart. He graduated from LeRoy High School and married Ruby Lucille Whiteside March 26, 1942 at Osage, Iowa. He then moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he was assigned as an aircraft mechanic supporting pilot training for the Army Air Corps. He returned to LeRoy in 1946 after being discharged from the service and worked as a mechanic for John Deere. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of LeRoy Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Mike and wife Cindy of Shakopee, Minn., and Jere and wife Nancy of Watertown, S.D.; and a daughter, Sue and husband Clay Spangenberg of Upper Marlboro, Md. Also six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a sister Beverly and Wayne Swancutt, Newport, Oregon, and a sister-in-law, Juletta Whiteside of LeRoy, and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Nauman, LeRoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby, August 10, 1991; three brothers George, Raymond (Bud) and Gerald, and three sisters, Grace, Lorrie and Hope.
