Elemo A. Summer, 93Elemo A. Summer, age 93, of Charles City, Iowa, formerly of Mclntire, 1A, died Friday, July 14, 2000 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa. Elemo Ambrose Summer was born on April 4, 1907 in Mclntire, Iowa, the son of Anton and Carrie (Hick) Summer. He attended school in Mclntire and graduated from Mclntire High School. He then attended Creighton University, but decided to return to Mclntire and become a dairyman. For many years, Elemo milked the cows, bottled the milk and delivered it door to door. On November 26, 1929, Elemo was united in marriage to Christine Marie Hendrickson in Riceville and they made their home in Mclntire. He lived in Mclntire for almost 80 years. During many of these years, he was mayor of Mclntire. They lived about 10 years in Charles City, and on May 6, 1995 Christine died and Elemo was left with just his daughter-in-law, grandchildren and memories to carry on the remainder of his life. During his younger years, he liked to attend ball games that his son played in and he used to sit and listen to games on the radio. He loved to fish, especially trout fishing and did a lot of trapping. Elemo was well read and could talk about any subject with much authority. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Darlene Summer of Floyd, Iowa; four grandchildren: Cheryl and husband Nick Cagley of Floyd, Kathy and husband Jeff Coe of Mason City, Iowa, Steve Summer of Floyd, Iowa and Dennis and wife Becky Summer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Elemo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Christine, one son, Wayne in 1985, one brother, Alfred as a child; six sisters: Lena and Rena as children, Anna, Ruby, Lila and Carol. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2000 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both at Riceville, Iowa. Rev. Ray E. Atwood presided and Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
