Delbert "Larry" Smith, 56CEDAR FALLS - Delbert "Larry" Smith, 56, Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the Mary Greeley Hospital emergency room, Ames, of an apparent heart attack. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Denver. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo, with graveside military rites conducted by the Acker-Matthias American Legion Post #653 of Denver. Visitation was at Garden View Chapel in Waterloo on Thursday, Aug. 17 from 4-9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m.. until noon and also at the church one hour prior to services. Delbert "Larry" Smith was born Dec. 24, 1943 in Melbourne, FL, the son of Delbert C. and Betty J. (Hartman) Smith. He married Michele Lentsch on Nov. 22, 1980 in Waterloo. He had been employed as a supervisor at the John Deere Engine Works for 33 years and was a U. S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Michele; a son, Chad at home; a daughter, Tiffany Holbert, Waterloo; two daughters by a previous marriage, Alisa Schutte and Brenda Meyerhoff, both of Evansdale; five grandchildren; his parents, Delbert and Betty Smith, New Hampton; a sister, Claudia Hopkey, Mason City. Preceding him in death were two daughters, Traci and Laura. Memorials may be directed to the family.
