Harris E. Schnathorst, 79DENVER - Harris E. Schnathorst, 79, Denver, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in .Cedar Falls of natural causes. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16 at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Denver with Rev. Vicki Kessler officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Denver. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 15 at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver. Harris was born April 21, 1921 in Petersburg, IL, the son of Rev. Frederick and Lydia (Berger) Schnathorst. He graduated from Elgin High School, Elgin, IL in 1939, then attended Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, IL for one year. On June 11, 1940 he was united in marriage with Eileen Engelking in Davenport. The couple resided in Bartlett, IL, where Harris worked at McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in Chicago. In 1945, the couple moved to Denver. Shortly before their move, he was inducted into the United States Army where he served from May 24, 1945 until March 20, 1946. After his military service, Harris operated the Mobil Station north of Denver, worked at John Deere in Waterloo and as a machinist in the local area. In 1953, he began working for Schield-Bantam in Waverly, retiring in 1987. 'Harris was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Denver. Through the years he enjoyed motorcycling, gunsmithing and woodworking. Surviving are two sons, Jerry (Marjorie) Schnathorst, Waverly, Dale (Barb) Schnathorst, Cedar Falls; two daughters, Janice Schnathorst, Denver, Sandra (David) Tilkes, Alta Vista; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Eileen on Feb. 22,1999; one son, Larry F. Schnathorst; two randchildren, Brian Allen chnathorst and Matthew Edward Tilkes; one brother, Waldo in infancy; one sister, Norma Jean Radloff. Memorials may be directed to the family.
