Austin Lee Rogers, 93FREDERICKSBURG - Austin Lee Rogers, 93, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000 at the 9unrise Guest Home, Fredericksburg. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fredericksburg with Pastor Ronnie Koch officiating. Music will be provided by Karen Downes, organist and Pastor Ronnie Koch, David Rogers and Robin Souhrada as vocalists. Their selections will include "The King of Love My Shepherd Is" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. Casketbearers will be Brad Faber, Leroy Rogers, Eugene Rogers, Timothy Rogers, Dennis Hartson and Edward Harrison. Austin was born in Cascade on Feb. 19, 1907, the son of Henry and Jessie (Pitman) Rogers. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church. The family moved to the Fayette area in 1912 and he graduated from Fayette High chool in 1925. Austin was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Schlatter on Jan. 11, 1930, at the Lutheran Church, Hawkeye. To this union six children were born. He was later confirmed at the Zion English Lutheran Church, West Union, in 1939. In the 40's and 50's they lived on various farms- in the Sumner and Fredericksburg areas. They quit farming ana moved into Fredericksburg in 1957. He worked at various jobs over the years as a butcher at a meat locker, construction and also for the cities of Sumner and Fredericksburg. His last employment was as caretaker at Hill Cemetery. During his married life he enjoyed playing cards (canasta) and fishing. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his six children and spouses, Robert and Florence, Dorothy and Raymond Harrison, all of Fredericksburg; Paul and Darlys, Brandon; Gerald and Gloria, Alva, OK; George and Donna, Mason City; Ronald and Wanda, Fredericksburg; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren, one greatgreat-grand-daughter; one sister, Viola Rogers, New Hampton Care Center and two nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Gladys, in 1977; three sisters, Neva Langerman, Maud Rogers and Florence Belbeck; one brother, Charles and two nephews.
