LaVona Oestreich, 84LAKE CITY - LaVona Oestreich, 84, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000 at Stewart Memorial Hospital, Lake City. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Auburn with Rev. Erland Asmus officiating. Music for the service was provided by Judy Vote as organist. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn. Casket-bearers were Scott Shannon, Jeff Drees, Brad Neitzke, J.J. Drees, Don Abel and J Jamie Stockwell. Visitation was after noon on Saturday, Nov. 4 with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at Lampe Funeral Home, Lake City. LaVona Willert was born on Nov. 16, 1915 at Auburn to Walter and Nettie (Anderson) Willert. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1932. On Feb. 29, 1936 she married Edward Shannon. They later divorced. LaVona graduated from Buena Vista College, Storm Lake in 1948. She married Walter Oestreich on June 9, 1964. She taught country school and for 35 years she taught elementary school in Auburn. LaVona enjoyed playing bingo, cards and being with friends and family. Survivors include one son, Duane Shannon, Rockford, IL; two daughters, Deanna (Alan) Neitzke, New Hampton and Donna (Joe) Drees, Warrens-burg, MO; one stepdaughter, Anita (Darrell) Krantz, Ware, MA; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandcnildren and two step-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents and husband, Walter, in 1998.
