Evelyn E. Ney, age 83Evelyn E. Ney, age 83. of The Western Home, Waterloo, died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the home of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:00 a m. Wednesday, March 8, at The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Evelyn was born July 8, 1916, on a farm in Riceville, the daughter of Clifford and Minnie (Irvin) McCook. She came to Waterloo in 1927. She married Francis A. Ney on December 19, 1941, and they were later divorced. Evelyn was a graduate of West High .School, and then employed in. the office at Rath Packing Company. She was a bookkeeper in several Waterloo area businesses, and her last position was as the office manager for Iowa Toy Company. Evelyn was known for her athletic ability. She was an enthusiastic bowler for 40 years, being named the High Average Woman Bowler in Waterloo in the 1940’s. She also won the state All Events Award and many league and city tournament titles. She and tennis partner, Dorathea Fort, won the County Doubles’ Championship in tennis. She also led her basketball team in scoring, she was an accomplished roller skater, and she also rode many American Saddle horses. Evelyn is survived by two sons, Brian Ney of Algona, Kirk Ney of Waterloo and granddaughters Amber and Jessica Ney.
