Mitch Murphy, 75CRESTON - Mitch Murphy, 75, died Dec. 3, 2000 at Greater Community Hospital, Creston. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at Coen-Beaty-Pearson, Creston with Rev. Lucretia Parks of Cromwell presiding. Burial was in Greenfield Cemetery with a committal service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 6. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the funeral home. Mitch was born June 2, 1925 in Fontanelle, the son of Albert and Austa (Lounsbury) Murphy. He graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1941. He served in me U.S. Army during WWII from 1945 -1946 and also during the Korean Conflict as a Master Sgt. from 1950 - 1951. He married Betty Jane Sandberg on April 6, 1946 in Highwood, IL. He worked on farms until 1945 and then worked for the Soil Conservation Service for 18 years. He also sold clay and plastic drainage tile and pipeline. He retired in July, 1999. He moved from New Hampton to Creston in 1976. He was a member of the Creston American Legion, Iowa Land Improvement Contractors Assoc. and the First United Methodist Church, Creston. Survivors are his wife, Betty; two sons, Charles (Kathy) Murphy, Iowa City and Richard (Julie) Murphy, Al-gona; one daughter, Sandra (Laine) Wilder, Des Moines; one brother, Frank (Raejean) Murphy, Greenfield; one sister, Esther Murphy Thompson, Billings, MT and two grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents.
