Loyd Entwisle, 85Funeral services for Loyd Entwisle were held on Friday, August 4 at the United Methodist Church in West Union. Rev. Kay Roath and Rev. Richard Speight officiated. Interment was in West Union Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Steve Nagel, Nicholas Entwisle, Shawn Zentz, James Weltzin, Dennis Nagel, and Lance Brennan. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Loyd, 85, died Wednesday, August 2 2000 at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center. Loyd Entwisle was born October 26, 1914 in Volney, the son of Charles and Cora (Slack) Entwisle. His mother died when he was an infant, and he was raised by his aunt, and later by his older siblings. Loyd attended schooL in Monona and Hawkeye. On March 17, 1937 he married Violet Walker in the Hawkeye Methodist Church. They farmed for a while, then Loyd was employed with Doscher-Miller and Sage Implement Company of West Union for ten years. Loyd then worked tor Sidney Crowe and Rodney Drewes doing dairy farming. Loyd retired to Hawkeye in 1979. During his retirement years, he spent his time mowing lawns, gardening, and taking care of his son Jim’s horses. Loyd cared for his wife until her death in 1991. Loyd entered the Good Samaritian Home in April 1998. Survivors include three sons: Jim and Mark of Hawkeye, and Dennis of West Union; seven daughters: Merilee Kleppe of Floris, Linda Weltzin of LaPorte City, Janet Entwisle of Cresco, Nancy Nagel of McGregor, Peggy Kurt of Bridge Port, NE, Diane Nagel of Prairie Du Chein, WI, and Julie Zentz of Cedar Rapids; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Loyd was preceded in death by his wife Violet; one daughter: Sherry Ellen; one grandson; three grandchildren in infancy; his parents; two brothers: Earl and Orville; and three sisters: Bessie Kolby, Ruby Hayward, and Ruth Schott.
