Doreen Burns, age 75, of Riceville passed away on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. A Mass of the Resurrection was held on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, Iowa with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Riceville.

Doreen was born on June 12, 1924 in Watford, England to James ¹ and Ivy Borthwick. She attended local schools and during WW II served by running search lights and special radar jamming signal. She was united in marriage to Robert J. Bums on November 30, 1943 in Watford, England. Doreen always took great pride in having been a war bride.

She is survived by one son, James Bums of Wixom Lake, Beaverton, Michigan; one daughter, Madeline Burns of Waterloo, Iowa; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, James Borthwick of Watford, England.

Doreen was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband Robert on June 6. 1995 and two sisters.
