Gordon L. Betts, 55, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at the Finley Hospital following a battle with heart ailments.

A memorial and prayer service was held Jan. 9 at Leonards Funeral Home in Dubuque, Iowa.

Mr, Betts worked for Standard Oil in Dubuque and later spent 20 years with Perfection Oil.

He was born on April 20, 1944, son of Roy and Velma (Lewis) Betts of Mclntire. He attended Mclntire and Riceville schools and was a veteran of the Army. He loved his pets and working on and collecting antiques.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Homer (Nelda) Eastman of Finchford, Iowa; four brothers, Leon (Muriel) Betts, of Clarion, Iowa, Neil (Mary) Betts, of Osage, and Keith Betts and Kaye (Patty) Betts, both of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Darlene Betts, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mrs. Fred (Carol) Walter; and two brothers, Eldon and Gene Betts.

A Gordon L. Betts Memorial Fund has been established.
