MISSOURI RIVER STEAMER HEADS FOR DAVY JONES LOCKER
Valley Queen
Aground on a sandbar in the Missouri river off Council Bluffs, the Valley Queen, excursion boat which plied the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers since show boat days, is breaking up and has been abandoned by the Omaha, Neb., syndicate which owns her. The boat which for the last 18 months has called Omaha her port, ran onto the bar when a st. louis pilot, unfamiliar with the Missouri river, was at the wheel. More than 140 excursionists and members of the crew were taken off by life boats. Attempts to refloat her have failed and plans are now being made to dynamite her
