IOWA STATE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND MECHANIC

Established in 1866. A State institution at
present governed by a board of eleven trustees elected by the
legislature; after July 1, 1909, under the supervision of the State
Board of Education. The governor and superintendent of public
instruction are ex-officio members of the board of trustees. The
work of the college is divided into four divisions each division
comprising a number of courses of study and requiring four years
work for a degree. In the Division of Agriculture, courses are
offered in Agronomy, Dairying, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, and
Science and Agriculture each of said courses granting the degree of
B.S.A; ; in the Division of Engineering, courses are offered in
Mechanical Engineering, granting the degree of B.M.E., Civil
Engineering, granting the degree of B.C.E., Electrical Engineering,
granting the degree of B. Sc. in E.E. and Mining Engineering,
granting the degree of B. Sc. in Mn. E.; in the Division of
Veterinary Science but one course is offered which grants the degree
of D.V.M.; in the Division of Science, courses are offered in

Science which grants the degree of B.L.S. Next year, optional five

TABOR COLLEGE - TABOR.
Established as a Literary Institute in 1857 and
as a college in 1886. Under the control of the Congregational Church
and governed by a board of nineteen trustees. Its courses of study
are arranged in twelve groups- Latin major, Greek major, French
major, German major, Philosophy major, English major, Chemistry
major, Mathematical major, Biology major, Pedagogy major, History
major and Economics major, of 192 recitation hours each, of which 91
hours are required of all students. Of the remainder 45 hours are
required in each groups and 45 hours elective. It has in addition to
the college, and academy with three courses of three years each, a
secondary pedagogy course of five years, a conservatory of music and
an art department. The net attendance in 1908 was 190, of whom 76
were in the college, 53 in the academy, 64 in the conservatory, 31
in the Art and 47 in the Commercial department. Its graduating class
of 1908 numbers 11. The total endowment is $75,000. The income for
1908, including amount invested in permanent improvements was
$20,000. Value of permanent improvements, $219,000, including real
estate. In addition to this, $45,000 has been pledged toward
$100,000 additional endowment. The college year begins on the 14th
of September, 1909, and closes on the 9th of June, 1910.
