The Physicians of Steamboat Rock (Iowa) |
The following is supposted to be correct list of the many prominent physicians who have from time to time practiced at Steamboat Rock: Dr. O.G. Fisher, the first one here, came in 1855, and removed in 1858. Dr. Foster came in 1857, removed in 1859. Dr. A.E. Wright came in 1860, removed to Buena Vista county in 1863 and died in 1906. Dr. Orin Peabody came in 1857, removed in 1859. Dr. Dyer came in 1860 and removed in 1862. Dr. Smith came in 1862 and remained two years. Dr. W.C. Tracy came in 1868 and in 1872, removed to Pennsylvania. Dr. A.A. Campbell came in 1866; died in Steamboat Rock in 1879. Dr. E. Clark came in 1873, remained until 1883. Dr. Baker came in 1873 and remained until 1877. Dr. E.H. King came in 1874 and remained until 1878. Dr. Winthrop came in 1875, and remained one year. Dr. Al.L. Low came in 1878, remaining two years. Dr. Roberts came in 1879, remained one year. Dr. M.C. Caldwell came in 1879, removed in 1881 to Nebraska and died in 1886. Dr. J.W. Caldwell came in 1880 and is still in practice. Dr. Wood came in 1882 and remained two yars. Dr. William Whitney came in 1894 and the same year moved to Eldora. Dr. J. Willard Caldwell came in 1901 and is still practicing in Steamboat Rock. Dr. George Porter came in 1896, removed in 1898 to another section of the state. Dr. Boone came in 1904 and left the same year. Dr. Myron Underwood came to this plae in 1860 and moved to Eldora in 1861, practiced many years and died there. Dr. F.A. Cogswell came to Steamboat Rock in 1892. |
