Encampment of Survivors of Siege of Vicksburg to Be Held Next Week

Geo. S. Jacks, Ion Lee and John Berogan leave next Sunday afternoon for Vicksburg, Miss., to attend the encampment of the survivors of the famous siege of Vicksburg during the civil war. All the survivors, both the blue and the gray, are invited by the government to attend this reunion. Uncle Sam will pay the expense while the boys are there—furnish touts, food, etc., and each state will pay the transportation charges of its soldiers to and from the encampment. The encampment lasts four days, from the 16th to the 19th of the present month.

The soldiers from here expect to meet many of their old comrades from their own regiments at this gathering. It may be that others of our "old boys" will attend the encampment, but the three above mentioned are the only ones so far reported.

The route for the Iowa soldiers is over the Illinois Central.

Moving Here From- Eagle Grove.

John P. German has rented the residence property at 730 Walnut street, owned by Mrs. Mary McConnell, and will move his family here from Eagle Grove Nov. 1, Mr. German, who is a piano tuner, has had headquarters at the Ruegnitz drug store for several years." He has now assumed charge of the piano department in this store and will be here all, instead of part of the time, as heretofore.
