Marion City - This settlement appears on early maps as being located on the county line in Marion Township from 1856 to 1863. The exact location is unknown. One map shows it on the stage route between Ridgeport and Homer. Hook's Point is generally shown as being several miles north of Marion City. Clara Madsen, in her book _Hook's Point Echoes_, says that the two places are the same. It was known that Hook tried to name his town Marion City, but the name never caught on.
