Seaman 1c Harold Edward Bloomquist, youngest son of August and Adela Speer Bloomquist voluntered for the service September 4, 1943 and took his boot training at Farragut, Idaho.
On December 18, 1945 while serving with the "Little Beaver" squadron off the east coast of Luzon the fleet was caught in a fierce typhoon. Three ships went down, the Monahan, the Hood and the Spence. In this holocaust of destruction Harold lost his life.
