Arsenal Building No. 2
A new
arsenal building has been built to house the property
of the Federal government and state for the use of
the National Guard. This building is located south of
Arsenal Building No. 1, across the street. It was
finished in 1918 and cost approximately #31, 000.00.
It is three stories high and the dimensions are
40x120 ft. This arsenal is now used by the Federal
government for storing property pretaining to the
Federal government. |
Camp Ground
During the last two years the state camp grounds and
rifle ranges, known as Camp Dodge, have been
increased by the addition of land bought in the
immediate vicinity of the original grounds until it
now averages 570.66 acres.
In July 1917, the federal government authorized the
location of a permanent military cantonment on the
site of the state camp grounds and called it Camp
Dodge. This encampment is based on the ground owned
by the state and the surrounding land. |
Inspectors - Instructors
Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Ridenour, Infantry, was on
duty at the State Headquarters as
Inspector-Instructor until April, 1917 as was also
Captain Clarence E. Fronk, Medical Corps. These men
were relieved from duty at the time the National
Guard organizations were called into Federal service.
In August, 1918, Lieutenant- Colonel J. T. Davidson,
retired, was detailed for such duty. At this time new
units of the National Guard were being organized. |
