Hildreth, Oznia, (aka Ozni Hildreth &
Oznus Hildreth) - Private in Capt. Frederick
Gitman's company of New York Militia, 5th Regiment,
5th Brigade, Col. Calvin Riche and Col. Dolson. He
entered the service in August 24, 1812, at Manheim,
Montgomery co. (now Herkimer co.) and was discharged
on February 24, 1813, at Sacket's Harbor, Jefferson
County, New York (or Johnstown, Montgomery County,
NY), for total service of 185 days. He served at
Sacket's Harbor and Cape Vincent. He stated that he
was the same Ozni Hildreth who was a corporal in
Capt. Garey's (Carey?) company in the NY Regiment of
Militia commanded by Col. Bellenger. (source: Wikitree, unknown author).

Company, New York Militia, War of 1812; Warrant No.
5578 for 80 acres in Section 1, Twp 103N, Range 4W,

daughter.
Biographical:
He was born July 12, 1794 in New York. He married
Jane Stark on March 4, 1817 in NY. He died November
29, 1877 and is buried in the Old Chapin cemetery. Gravestone

came to Geneva twp. Franklin co. in 1854. Mary died
August 20, 1862. Jabish died February 8, 1882. They

September 28, 1864. Maria died November 30, 1885.

Amasa Parker's Company Detached Militia, from the
County of Delaware in the State of New York. Entered
service Sept. 8, 1814 at Delhi, NY. Honorably
dis/charged Nov. 28, 1814 at New York City. Previous
to this service, he had belonged to an Independent
Company of Militia of Delaware co. NY, which was
disorganized and a new company (Capt. Parker's Co.)
formed.

03/01/1855 - Received for service in Capt. Parker's
Co., NY militia, War of 1812. Warrant No. 32267 for
40 acres in Dallas co. Iowa. NE quarter of the SE
quarter of Section 26, Twp 79N, Range 29W. Andrew

1850 U.S. census, Orland twp., Cook co. IL - Gideon
Rice, age 80, (birthplace illegible); living in the
household of Manchester Rice, age 26. Several
households away is the family of Gideon's son Amon.
1860 U.S. census, Hampton, Washington twp., Franklin
co. IA - Gideon Rice, age 78, born N.Y., farm
laborer; living in household of Amon Rice.
Notes: Gideon's age given in the census records are
in conflict and should be verified. Indexed records
on both ancestry.com and familysearch.org give
birthplace on the 1850 as Ireland, which is
questionable, and if true, must be a different Gideon
Rice.

Gideon was born in either New York or Massachusetts
depending on the record. He died February 15, 1863,

Black Hawk War
Butterfield, Benjamin - Sergeant,
Capt. Holder Sisson's company, Illinois Militia.
Butterfield & his family were among the area
settlers who took shelter in the blockhouse built by
Capt. Sisson near Fort Dearborn, Illinois. The
company was raised to defend the settlers on the
prairie and in defense of the blockhouse.
Bounty land:
12/05/1861, received for service, Warrant No. 86,286
for 160 acres, in favor of Benjamin Butterfield,
Sgt., Capt. Sisson's Co., IL Militia, Blackhawk War.
Located upon the SE quarter of Sect. 17, Twp. 6,
Range 14, Jackson co., Kansas. Butterfield then
assigned the land to Joshus B. Sympson. (Bounty Land
Warrant, Vol 438, pg 273)

Biographical:
Benjamin was born June 11, 1794 in Washington co.,
New York. He married twice, first to Martha Morrison
and second to Elizabeth Scott. In 1834, after the
Sauk & Illini were defeated in the Blackhawk War
by the U.S. Cavalry, the Butterfield family removed
from Fort Dearborn to a farm south of Chicago. In
1854 they removed to Franklin county. He died April
28, 1878 and is buried in the Maynes Grove cemetery. Gravestone. Obituary
