ILLYRIA FOLKS PUT OVER ANOTHER
WINNER
The eleventh annual community Day picnic at
the Illyria church grounds last Friday is claimed to be a record
breaker for attendance which shows that the interest in these
affairs is increasing each year.
The day’s activities started at the noon hour
when members of the Aid Society served a big dinner. This was
followed by a program in the big tent which seated over 400 people
and was completely filled. Rev. J. J. Snyder first welcomed the home
comers and visitors being followed bya short program of music by the
Illyria orchestra. Other numbers on the program were a solo by
Wallace Peters, reading by Edith Frieden, solo by Darlene Yearous,
talk by Rev. E. J. Starr, the Piney Woods singers and an address by
Rv. Sandbach of Decorah.
A ball game and other sports finished the
afternoon program.
The evening program started with a band
concert by the Elgin band and this was followed by a three act
comedy, “The winding Road.” The members of the cast were members of
the Epworth League and they had been coached by Rev. Snyder. It was
a nicely balanced play and the young people did credit to themselves
in their presentation of the different characters.
The Cotton Blossom Singers offered several
musical numbers during the intermission between acts and added
greatly to the entertainment. The big tent was again filled and
everyone was very well pleased with the entertainment.
