Illyria Items
THE JUDGES OUT TO KNOW (?)
The following item appears in the Farm Bureau
news this week:
“Wallace Peters of Illyria township, won the
first hog calling contest ever staged in Fayette county but was won
by a close race with Grant Kiel of Smithfield, who placed second,
and Ed Eitel, who place third. Callers were scored by judges, Ray
Anderson of Fayette, Dr. J. P. Van Horn of Fayette, and Walter Beall,
of West Union.
Ray Anderson might know something about
calling hogs. . .[page fold] whether Walter Beall, who edits a
newspaper or Dr. Van Horn who is president of Upper Iowa, ever
called a hog in their life. Mr. peters must have won on tone
quality, as he is a good singer, but when it comes to “hog appeal”
we doubt the judgment of these judges.
