There is a very pleasant house party this week at the home of Maj. and Mrs. R. D. KELLOGG, Eleventh and Forest avenue. Besides the gallant host and genial hostess, with their vivacious daughter, Miss Flossie, there is the major's niece from the West, Miss Josephine KELLOGG, who has spent the summer here, and the elder daughter of the house, formerly Miss Alice with her husband, Rev. Wm. CARTER, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Sterling, Illinois, who are just ending a six weeks' vacation, and three young ladies, very special friends of the family, Misses Mary and Susie HARKNESS of Parson's College, Fairfield, and Miss Isabel BEER, daughter of Rev. Robert BEER, of the Presbyterian church at Garden Grove in this state. Miss HARKNESS returns soon to New Orleans where she has for four years enjoyed the distinction of filling the Latin chair in Newcomb College. Newcomb is the only college for young ladies in the South, being the woman's branch of Tulane University. This evening the younger people of the party take a boating excursion on the General Clarkson. Miss Hattie GARTON, of this city, Chas. BLACK of the Banker's Life Insurance, with his wife, John BLAIR, secretary of the Iowa Loan and Trust, Rev. Hugh JACK, of Westminster Presbyterian church, North Des Moines, Russell SMITH of Fairfield and John MCCLINTOCK, of Burlington, are of the party - Des Moines Register.
