The Davis City Advance Davis City, Iowa Thursday, July 18, 1895 A party of Lamoni people are encamped in the valley of Mud on Grand River this week. L.J. BARR and wife, W.P. CURWEN and wife, W.D. GAY and wife, W.A. MYERS and wife, and W.H. DANCER and wife. Their household goods were transported via Hayrack line. The jolly people followed in proper style with carriage and four in hand. The neighborhood yearns mightily to sit all day watching for a bite. The fishing is fine, so fine it will probably take all of the ten to see a nibble, but the solid enjoyment. Oh! My! The weather is cool enough to sharpen the appetite and make a rousing campfire a necessity. Success to the rural visitors. -- CHRONICLE. Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert September 4, 2003 |
The Davis City Advance, Davis City, Iowa Thursday, July 25, 1895 An old lady writes to learn what "bloomers" are. Upon special inquiry we have gleaned the following description of the new attire for the mannish girl: The much talked about bloomer is simply a pair of trousers, very baggy at the knees, abnormally full above pistol pockets, and considerably full where you strike a match. The garment is cut décolleté at the south end, and the bottoms are tied at the knees to keep the mice out. You can't put it on over your head as you would a shirt, but you sit on the floor and put it on just as you do your stockings, one foot in each compartment. You can easily tell which is the right side to have in front, by the buttons on the neckband. -- FACT. Copied by Nancee (McMurtrey) Seifert September 4, 2003 |
